Roller Derby

Bliss Cavendar is a 16 year old girl living in the hick town known as Bodeen, Texas. Ever since Bliss was young her mom, Brooke, took her to pageants to compete. Unfortunatly Bliss never got anything other than a certificate of participation, but Bliss didn't mind. Even by then she knew that the pageant life was not for her. At the start of her high school years she meets best friend Pash Amini, a fellow rebel. Bliss and Pash spend their days working at the 'Oink Joint', a popular tourist site, until one exciting trip to Austin, Texas for back to school shopping changes Bliss' world. Before her mom manages to drag Bliss out of the cool university stores, Bliss grabs a Roller Derby poster, which inspires her to join the Roller Derby, and become an instant star.

Bliss' ordinary world is living in her hick town, Bodeen, and working at the Oink Joint with bestie, Pash Amini. But one trip to Austin Texas, takes Bliss and her mother to cool university stores where Bliss grabs a Roller Derby poster, and right then Bliss decides to go. She and Pash sneak out and go to a Roller Derby game. Bliss then starts taking the senior's bus into Austin for tryouts. At first Bliss is terrible at it, but Malice, the head of the derby team, the Hurl Scouts, sees past her clumsyness and drafts Bliss for a position.

At the roller derby, I think it becomes Bliss' new ordinary home. She feels confident and comfortable there.

Brooke Cavender: I'm supposed to buy you shoes from a... a head shop? Does that really strike you as responsible parenting?
Bliss Cavender:  Fine, the shoes are a gateway drug.
